Amalina actively pursued her passion for art beyond the academic during her time as a student in NJC. As the Vice-President of the NJC Photographic Society, she played a key role in organizing ‘Snap’, a youth photography competition-cum-seminar in conjunction with market heavyweight Nikon. Amalina herself has a keen interest in portraiture. Currently, Amalina is concentrating on building her portfolio and is looking to pursue study in English Literature or Art History.
The self-described ‘guy on the street’ is anything but ordinary. The Vice-President of the National Education Club, Edmund dedicated himself to finding diverse ways to engage his peers in National Education. He believes that engaging the mind, hands and heart is critical to fostering social cohesion and helping Singapore sustain her great achievements. Edmund is currently serving his National Service. He is says the thing that mattered most in NJC was having his friends’ support.
Laura believes that the environment and ‘personality of NJC’ have widened her eyes and given her multitudinous opportunities. A House Captain of Ignis House, Laura says that she encountered many challenges and learnt that sometimes, ‘you have to try every alternative till you succeed’. Passionate about arts, Laura intends to apply to read architecture and greatly admires the beauty of the Guggenheim museum in New York. She is particularly fascinated by the dynamic between architecture and the urban environment and hopes to influence the design of social spaces in future.
Roderica nurtured her love for Medical Science during her time in NJC as a student of the Integrated Programme. She was heavily involved in science research, working with the Institute of Bioengineering and Nanotechnology on a bio-artificial kidney project. She was also the Head of the Organising Committee for the college’s Leadership Symposium 2009. Outside of school, Roderica is an avid music enthusiast and is proficient at playing the piano and cello. She has performed at public concerts, the most memorable one being the SSO Music Marathon. She plans to pursue her passion and become a doctor, serving the Singaporean community with her gifts and talents.
Sherlene entered National Junior College in 2006 under the Integrated Programme. She believes that being in NJC really helped develop her as a more confident, outspoken person. She was actively involved in the Gavel Club and was appointed as the President of Greenlink. She continues to be active in pursuing environmental causes. Sherlene enjoyed her experience in NJC greatly and attributes her academic success to the teachers of NJC. “The teachers of NJC are amazing. They do so much work for us and yet they don’t complain”, she says. Sherlene attributes her success to her supportive brothers, one of whom has just returned from Australia after completing his degree in forensics. Sherlene has received a provisional offer for the PSC Overseas Merit Scholarship (Open). She plans to pursue a degree in Economics in the United States.
